Soft Molasses Cookies (Family Recipe)

Chewy, spiced cookies passed down through generations β€” the kind that stay soft for days.

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar; beat in molasses and egg.
  2. Mix in dry ingredients to form a soft dough; chill 1 hour.
  3. Roll into balls, coat in sugar, and place on a tray.
  4. Bake at 350Β°F (175Β°C) for 10–12 minutes until just set.

Chef's Notes

Do not overbake β€” they should look slightly underdone; they firm up as they cool and stay chewy. Store with a slice of bread to keep them soft.
